Weekly Goal: Students will continue exploring Chapter 11 about Ancient Egypt. We will be discussing how the pyramids may have been built along with studying some of the more notable pharaohs. Anyone wishing to do a retake of Unit 5 needs to do so by the end of the week. Later in the week we will be doing an activity day where the students get to use their hands and have some fun with a competition.

Objectives/ Essential Questions: How did the shapes of the pyramids evolve over time? How big were they? How can one theorize how they were constructed?

Kush's relations with the Egyptians like?

Project: "EKBG" (aka, Egypt and Kush Board Games)
Students will be working in groups of 4 to develop their own board games in an effort to review and study for the unit 5 test over Ancient Egypt and Ancient Kush.
1. In groups of 4, develop an objective ( or objectives) for your game. Ideas can be somewhat related to games you are familiar with or something you make up.
2. Objectives should be related to our unit of study involving both chapters 11 and 12, pages 276-321.
3. The games should involve some form of questioning that incorporates major objectives from the material we have been covering.
4. It would be best to be done on poster board but other materials can be used. Just use common sense and budget your time with materials. The boards can and should be designed with the Egyptian and Kushite themes in mind. Bring your materials with you for the next 3 class periods as you will be working on them.
5. We will plan on playing the finished games next week on Friday, March 14.
6. The idea is to have a functioning game that utilizes questioning from the material we have covered, has CLEAR AND EASY TO FOLLOW RULES so the games can be exchanged and played by other groups , and is creatively constructed.
7. The games will be graded on:
A. Content of material.
B. Clear and concise rules that are easy to follow.
C. Neatness and creativity.
D. How well it potentially prepares students for testing.

Students will be in groups researching and presenting on people, places, religions, dynasties, and achievements
of cultures that we have not had the chance to get to in preparation for Social Studies on the ISTEP.

4. DYNASTIES: HAN, SUI, TANG, SONG. ETC.
5. ACHIEVEMENTS OF: INDIA, HARAPPAN, ASIA, ETC.

Week of March 10: ISTEP WEEK!!!!!!!!!!
Weekly Goal: Put students in the best position to succeed on the ISTEP. During the week, students will be working on
their Egypt and Kush Board Games. Friday, the goal is to exchange and play the games.
Monday, March 10: Big Idea/ Standards: Students will be incorporating all the Big Ideas and Standards from Unit 7
as they are doing an "ALL encompassing" project on Egypt and Kush.
Objectives/ Essential Questions:
1. Students will finish presenting their ISTEP PREP material
2. Any time remaining will be used to work on their Board Game Projects.

Objectives/ Essential Questions:
1. Students will be exchanging their board games and playing each others games as a review for the test.
2. While students are playing the games, I will be walking around and grading them. (50 points)

D. How well it potentially prepares students for testing.

Wed, March 19: Battleship Review for Unit 7 Test

UNIT 7 TEST OVER ANCIENT EGYPT AND ANCIENT KUSH.

Reminder: Please take home your game pieces. The room will be cleaned with Spring Break approaching.
To wrap up our Egyptian Unit, we will be watching a video titled, "The Pyramid Code". It will give us another look on Egyptian history and how much of the information out there is left to speculation.
