Week of Feb. 3, 2014

Weekly Goal:  The students will be starting their Unit 6 Project and will have the week to research their country and put together a presentation.

Mon. February 3 through Friday, February 7:

          Big Idea/ Standards: Students will be researching countries from the regions of unit 6 and preparing a presentation that will be due Monday, Feb. 10.  The assignment is to be worked on at school and at home, even in the event of snow days, so that it can still meet the due date of Feb. 10. The assignment is as follows:

Using their assigned country, the students are to research the country following the standards and criteria listed below:

1. Discuss and show pictures of your country's climate and geographical features. Standards: 7.3.4, 7.3.6.

2. Identify and describe recent conflicts and political issues between nations and/or cultural groups. Standard: 7.1.18.

3. Identify and discuss any current trends and patterns of population distribution in your country. Standard 7.3.12.

4. Discuss any historical events since World War II (approximately 1945). Standard 7.1.16.

5. Identify and share points of interests located within your country. (tourist locations, historical monuments, etc.)

6. Answer one (1) of the following questions:

     A. "I would go there because....."

     B. "I would not go there because..."

Students must be able to present their project to the class using the smart board. The presentation should be done on some type of media like PAGES, POWERPOINT, SLIDEROCKET, KEYNOTE, ETC. The presentations can include pictures, short videos, informative clips, maps, charts, graphs, etc. that help depict a true representation of what that country is about. The presentation should be approximately 4-6 minutes long.

**Each criteria or standard listed above is worth 10 points. Presentation organization is worth 20 points. Neatness/ Professionalism/Grammar is worth 20 points. Project total is 100 points.

Weekly Goal:  Students will be presenting their country to the class. The objective is to finish the presentations prior to the weekend and take a pretest over our next unit, Ancient Egypt and Ancient Kush.

Monday, February 10-Thursday, February 13:
          Students will be presenting in front of the class covering the criteria and standards listed above in the project outline.

Friday, Feb. 14:
          Big Idea/ Standards:  Ancient Egypt and Ancient Kush. Standards 7.1.1, 7.1.2, 7.1.3, 7.3.11. Geography, history and achievements of this area in Northeastern Africa.
             Objective: Students will be pretesting over the above standards.

**Finish any presentations if necessary. Anyone that does not present by the end of the day on Friday will need to schedule a time during lunch or after school to present to Mr. Zacher.**
